Challenging opportunities exist in a central ambulance communications centre. Four temporary fixed-term contract positions are currently available. This competition will also be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities within the next eighteen months following the closing date of the job ad posting.

What can I expect to do in this role?

We are seeking dedicated individuals to: work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment; process 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance service; direct ambulance movements; provide pre-arrival instructions; communicate with individuals under stress; and operate complex computer-aided telecommunications equipment.

Requires working on an as-needed basis with no guarantee of number of hours worked.

How do I qualify?

Qualifications:

Strong multi-tasking, organizational and memory recall skills; ability to maintain control under pressure and use professional judgment; excellent critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills; skill in handling situations in a professional manner; excellent leadership, customer service, interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills; proficiency in computer software and computer-based telecommunications applications; good understanding of spatial concepts (e.g., reading maps, calculating time, distance and movement); demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and information; typing at 35 wpm with 90% accuracy. Only candidates who clearly identify they meet these qualifications will be considered. Job offer conditional upon: satisfactory criminal record check; valid standard first-aid and targeted responder CPR certificate, and successful completion of Windows computer-based training followed by Ambulance Communications Officer provincial certification, Restricted Radio Operator certification, and successful completion of on-the-job training.
