The Ministry of Children and Youth Services' specialized services and supports branch is seeking an innovative, results-oriented leader to manage the special needs unit responsible for the development of policies and programs for children and youth with special needs.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As manager of the special needs unit, you will:

• Undertake ministry-wide and inter-ministerial collaboration in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive policies and programs to support the government's agenda for children and youth with special needs.
• Establish and maintain strong intra- and inter-ministerial and stakeholder relationships.
• To provide strategic leadership on key policy development and program design initiatives in the area of children and youth with special needs.

Leadership

• You have demonstrated the ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve organizational goals while maintaining a positive work environment with a focus on staff development.
• You are a strategic leader who can promote a culture of inclusion, accountability and efficiency in a fast paced environment.
• You are a strong negotiator who can influence others to find business oriented and collaborative solutions for complex issues.

Knowledge

• You have demonstrated experience leading policy/program development across ministries.
• You have strong analytical, project/team management and stakeholder management skills.
• You have sound knowledge of government policy development and approval processes.
• You have the ability to meet strict deadlines in a complex and demanding environment.
• You have knowledge of needs of and services for children with special needs.

Communication Skills

• You have superior oral and written communication skills including, polished presentation skills and sharp political acuity.
• You have delivered confidential advice to senior level executives and have managed high-profile issues.
• You have experience building and maintaining relationships across the organization and externally to gather input and build consensus in order to deliver on priorities.
