The Labour and Transportation I and IT Cluster is seeking a results oriented leader with experience in strategic planning and advising senior management on technical projects. If this sounds like you, then consider this position with the Service Management Branch, and bring your expertise to lead the development and maintenance of the Ministry of Transportation's driver, vehicle and carrier systems.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• plan, coordinate and lead the delivery of the Ministry of Transportation's driver, vehicle and carrier systems which operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day
• provide specialized technical expertise, advice and consultative services to end users and senior management to ensure that all technical issues are addressed and resolved
• develop, implement and monitor mission critical systems
• create standards, policies and procedures relating to Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
• provide project leadership and team leadership to staff
• negotiate with vendors and clients to ensure that all project requirements are within timelines and budgetary requirements

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• demonstrated experience and technical skills in a multi-tiered application and database environment, leading large-scale, mission critical application systems and capacity planning, performance tuning and backup technology
• knowledge of application performance enhancement techniques to coordinate the delivery of a comprehensive system to internal and external clients
• knowledge of IT systems design in a large scale application database environment including multi-tiered IT application architecture, data management, communication networks, mainframe Z/OS, Windows 2003 and Unix operating systems
• thorough understanding of current IT trends, standards and industry best practices

Analytical and Strategic Planning Skills

• excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve service delivery issues
• good knowledge of strategic planning, policy and standards development
• ability to identify and recommend innovative business opportunities, practices and services to address client needs

Project Management, Negotiation and Contract Management Skills

• excellent negotiation and contract management skills
• knowledge of project management and planning principles and budgeting skills to estimate project costs
• strong organizational and leadership skills to coordinate and lead concurrent projects and activities of staff

Communication and Consultation Skills

• excellent oral and written communication skills to liaise with clients and vendors in an effective manner and prepare related project documents
