Please note: The number of positions to be filled has not been identified at this time. This competition will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities within the next eighteen months following the closing date of the job ad posting.

Positions that may be filled throughout the next eighteen months are for:
Permanent and temporary Flexible Part-time 1000/hours per annum and 1500/hours per annum as well as temporary Irregular On-Call both unilingual (English only) and bilingual (English and French).

The hourly rate for these positions is $20.72.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will provide court reporting services by operating electronic monitoring equipment to record the proceedings of the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice, including testimony of witnesses, arguments of counsel, judges' instructions and all matters pertinent to the record; playing back in court proceedings previously recorded at the discretion of the presiding Justice; provide transcripts of court proceedings on request; index and file the court records; and assist as monitor in other courts within the region.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Typing to 50 words per minute.
• Advanced Level proficiency in oral and written French for bilingual positions.

We are looking for:

• ability to multi-task in a high demanding work environment;
• organizational skills in order to meet strict timelines;
• a high standard of Canadian English language grammar and spelling;
• good knowledge of legal and technical terms and court procedures;
• excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in dealing with judiciary, legal profession and general public;
• listening skills to ensure accurate recordings and transcription of the court record; ability to operate electronic court recording systems efficiently;
• computer literacy to accurately key information and maintain formatting standards of the production of transcripts;
• attention to detail.
