To participate as a team member in the development and implementation of an effective Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services communications and outreach program by assisting in the development and delivery of communications products including internal and/or external communications, developing background materials, media relations and promotional initiatives.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• develop communications and marketing tools and products, including preparing internal or external communications such as advertising, presentations, and working with graphic designers on product design;

• Assist in the development and implementation of web and social media strategies such as use of Twitter, Facebook, etc.;

• Respond to inquiries from staff, the public, other ministries and media on AFFES related initiatives such as FireSmart, Fire Prevention, Emergency Management or Aviation initiatives.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years.
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist with or develop communications and marketing materials, oral communication skills to deal with media inquiries, write reports, prepare options and recommendations, web content, surveys, correspondence, etc.
• knowledge of public relations and how to organize conferences or make arrangements for meetings; and prepare media kits and information packages
• Ability to work effectively within a number of multi-disciplinary team, with non-government clients and partners, and with people in person and at a distance.
• Desktop publishing skills to develop and maintain communication material.
• Planning and organizational skills to assist with the development of projects and products, and to balance multiple assignments.
• Project Management skills to plan, co-ordinate and manage deliverables as set out under various initiatives outlined above.
• Customer Service Skills to respond to program related inquiries.

Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
