The Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) is looking for an experienced leader to direct mediative services within an environment of complex and sensitive labour relations and employment disputes.

The Manager, Field Services is responsible for mediated settlements in all of the Board's cases. In addition to settling cases, the Field Services Unit oversees bargaining unit certification votes and assists parties in identifying issues and streamlining the cases that do get adjudicated to avoid unnecessary litigation.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the Manager, Field Services, you will:
• direct the day-to-day work of the Field Services Unit
• ensure that field staff receive appropriate development opportunities and that they perform efficiently and effectively
• provide ongoing support and advice to field staff in resolving complex, challenging disputes
• identify and evaluate cases with potential precedent setting ramifications for the Labour Relations community
• act as a forward thinker in seeking solutions through consulting, negotiation, conflict resolution and consensus-building

Leadership Skills

• you are a proven leader with experience building teams, mentoring staff and delivering results in a high-profile environment
• you can foster a diverse, inclusive, equitable and accessible work place
• you have experience leading the development and implementation of new strategies to improve efficiency and streamline operations

Industrial Relations and Employment Law Knowledge

• you have an expert and in-depth knowledge of the Labour Relations Act, applicable sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Standards Act, related statutes and case law applicable to the Boards mandate and jurisdiction
• you have excellent knowledge of the industrial relations field, including labour economics, personnel administration, labour relations and the labour movement
• you have expert knowledge of mediation techniques and practices and extensive, proven, background in their application
• you have extensive knowledge of the rules of evidence and the conduct of hearings to facilitate procedural and factual agreements
• you can apply your expertise to provide sound advice and technical direction to staff

Communication and Relationship Management Skills

• you are an excellent communicator with proven ability to develop and maintain critical relationships
• you have proven ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and senior industry and union officials, often in crisis situations
• you have excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to gain and maintain the confidence, credibility and respect of parties in a mediation setting
• you can foster a positive atmosphere for achieving settlements
