Are you a self-motivated and innovative economist able to provide economic, statistical and analytical support on economic and trade issues impacting the forest industry in Ontario? If so, then consider this exciting opportunity with the Ministry of Natural Resources where you will support the development and implementation of Ontario's strategy and positioning in national and international trade matters pertaining to forestry.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:
• develop and provide information and advice on the development and implementation of forest pricing policies
• provide advice and analysis on potential economic impacts of proposed strategies and positions, and forest industry response, and evaluate the impact of various policy options effects on trade issues
• maintain communications with other Ontario ministries, federal and other provincial government agencies and appropriate industry stakeholders
• prepare correspondence, briefing notes and background materials for senior management and manage information from a variety of sources

How do I qualify?

Technical knowledge:

• knowledge of economic theory, research methods and analytical techniques with emphasis in areas of economics, forestry and financial analysis
• knowledge of international trade flows, trade issues and trade dispute mechanisms
• knowledge of forest tenure and timber pricing systems, competitive markets, and the factors that influence the value of forest resources

People/communication skills:

• excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with stakeholders and provincial and federal government agencies
• well-developed communication skills to prepare summaries of research findings and reports and present information to stakeholders and senior management

Other general skills:

• strong research, analytical and problem solving skills to provide accurate interpretations and expert recommendations
• demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines and ability to function independently and within a team environment
• demonstrated ability to use computers and software for analysis, developing spreadsheets, preparing presentation material and managing data including data compilation, data analysis and modeling tools
