The Ministry of the Attorney General, Court Services Division, requires a well-organized individual to provide translation services (English to French and French to English) to the Ministry and all levels of courts.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• translate texts of normal to high complexity for all levels of court e.g. criminal, civil, family and small claims court
• provide technical guidance on procedural matters or interpretation of translation issues
• provide information on directive and instructional memoranda regarding translation matters
• assist in the preparation of lexicons and terminology banks
• act as a corporate resource and mentor to new freelance interpreters
• deliver testing and training to new and current interpreters as required

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:

• You must be proficient in English as well as in oral and written proficiency in French at the superior level

Technical Knowledge and Skill:

• You demonstrate superior English and French oral and written communication skills, both in terms of vocabulary and facility with grammar and sentence structure to provide written translations for/to all levels of court e.g. criminal, civil, family, provincial offences court, and small claims court
• You have knowledge of adult testing and training methodologies
• You demonstrate knowledge of legal terminology to ensure the accurate rendering of legal terms and ideas

Other Essential Skills:

• You have proven ability to research terminology of subject matter for the purpose of translation
• You have interpersonal skills to interact with officials of court, legal counsel and ensure that individuals for whom translation is provided understand the message rendered
