Are you interested in providing traffic data collection services by conducting various vehicular and pedestrian surveys on the provincial highway system throughout the region? If yes, then please consider this exciting opportunity.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• carry out traffic movement studies, speed studies, ball banking studies, and sight distance reviews
• apply your knowledge of mathematics to code and verify input data and assess validity of collected data
• process traffic data by downloading data to microcomputer and using appropriate software program
• observe and record traffic behaviour at specific locations and prepare comprehensive field notes, complete with photos and videos
• provide input into the location of permanent data collection loops, the type of installation and the inspection of loop installation
• access computer data bases and input and extract information in order to provide assistance to Traffic Analysts
• Maintain equipment, perform minor repairs, and calibrate measuring devices such as radar speed measuring devices and slope metres

NOTE: Occasionally required to work overtime and on weekends during the summer months.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Valid Class G Ontario Driver's License

Knowledge of Traffic Data Collection:

• You have knowledge of collection methods and procedures for collecting traffic data including traffic movement studies, speed studies, ball banking studies and sight distance reviewes

Knowledge of Software Applications:

• You have knowledge of traffic data software programs such as Traffic Engineering Software (TES) and TrafMan
• You have working knowledge of computers, e-mail and word processing software

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of electronic counting equipment and devices; traffic counters, classifiers, gretchboards, laptop computers, radar, video cameras, and distance measuring devices
• You have knowledge of traffic sensing devices and loop installation methods
• You have knowledge of relevant health and safety acts, policies and practices (such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, etc.) to provide traffic control and to operate vehicles and equipment

Soft Skills:

• You have good judgement, planning, organization and problem solving skills to determine when or where counts should be conducted and equipment to be used
• You have good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to deal with public
• You have good communication skills to prepare field notes and sketches
• You are able to work independently
