Bring your culinary expertise and strong leadership skills to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. As a committed food services professional who demonstrates high standards of integrity and ethical behaviour, you will manage the food services function in a maximum security correction centre, prepare and distribute approximately 5, 000 meals daily.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Within a systemic change and anti-racism organizational change context that values diversity, you will:
• build an effective and diverse team through developing trusting relationships and motivating others by modeling a positive, professional and respectful work environment
• supervise staff providing leadership, training and development, performance evaluations, recruitment and discipline
• organize and plan work schedules, food production and operations (including food purchasing, menu planning, etc) and administrative procedures
• determine effective use of equipment, products and resources ensuring cleanliness, sanitation and safety, including the development and implementation of efficient and economical production methods
• be responsible for the operating budget by forecasting purchases, tracking costs and planning capital needs
• deliver courses and train and assess offender food service workers

Please note: A Custodial Responsibility Allowance payment is applied to the salary range for this position.

Leadership and Organizational Skills:

• you recognize and make the best use of the diverse skills, abilities, experiences and talents that each individual brings to the team to achieve best results
• you have knowledge of human resources management, including collective agreements, employment legislation and health and safety to supervise and train staff
• you have organizational skills to coordinate activities and ensure the smooth operation of kitchen and delivery services

Food Service Expertise and Budget Administration:

• you have knowledge of nutrition and food service administration normally acquired through a post-secondary Food Service Management program, and/or through food service management within an institutional-type setting, and/or home economics and dietetics or closely related field (i.e. recognized Food Service Supervisor's/Manager's program and eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM))
• you have thorough knowledge of practices and techniques of food service management and methods
• you are able to interpret and apply legislation and policies related to food service, nutrition and waste management
• you have knowledge of budget preparation, cost control and calculation of food and labour costs for large institutional food services
• you have the ability to apply government budgetary procedures and administration

Communication, Analytical and Computer skills:

• you can liaise with staff in various departments, occupations and with suppliers and Public Health Officials
• you can use your strong analytical skills to review and administer systems and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
• you can keep detailed and complex records, statements, and statistical reports
• you have experience using a personal computer and specialized food production and control
