Are you an individual who thrives on challenge and enjoys project work? If so, then consider this exciting opportunity to support the delivery of safe and efficient traffic operations on Ontario highways. In this role, you will provide technical expertise in traffic engineering.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• provide technical expertise in several areas including capacity analysis, collision analysis, roadside hazards, traffic control signals and intersection operations
•conduct on site investigations to assess traffic operations
conduct detailed traffic studies for the application of traffic control devices; review and resolve traffic operational problems
• review traffic impact studies, develop safe and effective construction, maintenance and traffic control recommendations
• review of highway rehabilitation contracts, and provide recommendations
• represent the ministry on technical working committees for regional and municipal traffic operations and transportation studies

On-site inspections may involve early morning, late night and weekend work outside normal office hours.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory Requirement:

• Valid Ontario Class G licence as travel in Ontario is required.

Technical and Legislation Knowledge:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices and procedures
• You have knowledge of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signs and pavement markings
• You understand collision and capacity analysis and traffic data collection, processing and projection techniques
• You have knowledge of highway design, construction and maintenance practices
• You have the ability to interpret, apply and provide detailed explanations on a broad range of provincial standards, procedures and regulations related to traffic operations and traffic control signal operations

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You communicate effectively with staff and clients and can prepare and present information in a clear and concise manner
• You can prepare memos, letters, presentations and present technical reports

Analytical Skills:

• You have the conceptual ability to observe and interpret existing and proposed traffic operations and characteristics in order to recommend solutions or make decisions to resolve complex traffic operational problems

Organizational Skills:

• You can effectively organize priorities and manage diverse projects and assignments

Computer Skills:

• You are proficient in various computer software applications (i.e. MS Office and traffic engineering software)
