Are you keen to lead the development of ‘state of the art' geographic information and systems necessary for the effective and efficient natural resource management in Ontario? If so, consider this technically challenging opportunity as Director of the Mapping and Information Resources Branch.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is responsible for developing and managing provincial programs to conserve biodiversity and ensure Ontario's natural resources are protected, managed and available for the enjoyment and use of future generations, and to ensure public safety.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Management and Information Division, critical to your success will be the ability to deliver solid/credible Geographic Information to the ministry, other ministries and agencies in support of good policy that will ensure sound natural resource management decisions in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the Director, Mapping and Information Resources you will:

• Provide leadership and direction to a branch responsible for the development of programs to ensure that the geographic information and systems required for natural resource management in Ontario are provided and managed effectively and efficiently.

• Lead the ministry's planning, development and implementation of the ministry's geographic information systems.

• Direct the provision of technical leadership and expertise for information management methodologies, policies, techniques and standards.

• Represent Ontario's Public and private sector interests in the development of national surveying and mapping policies and programs.

• Manage the integrated natural resource inventory databases; and ensure the provision of Information Access Services.

• Support and promote a productive team environment which reflects an inclusive, diverse and accessible work place.

How do I qualify?

Leadership

• You have proven senior leadership experience directing and motivating a team of technical professionals in a transitional environment, interfacing with a broad spectrum of clients and stakeholders.
• You have proven abilities in providing strategic direction, establishing policies and priorities and developing and implementing programs to deliver results in a complex and changing environment.
• You are an inclusive leader who values service excellence and creates a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace.
• You have experience in negotiating and managing partnerships.

Knowledge / Technical Experience

• You have expert knowledge of Geographic Information management and knowledge of information management in general.
• You possess superior analytical and strategic-thinking skills.
• You understand relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to land surveying, information management, intellectual property management and information access.

Communication and Relationship Management

• You have demonstrated the ability to anticipate, manage, and provide succinct briefings to senior management on complex issues relating to geographic information.
• You are a polished communicator and negotiator, an effective consensus builder, with exceptional political acuity able to represent the government through public appearances and media engagements.
