What can I expect to do in this role?
Work Description:
The Central Municipal Services Office (MSOC), Local Government Section is seeking a motivated student who is knowledgeable and interested in gaining practical experience about local government matters.
The student Municipal Advisor will support the local government section in its role to provide advice and support to municipalities in Central Ontario, and provide relevant information about Central Ontario municipalities to senior management.
You may be required to work on some or all of the following tasks:
• Conduct research and prepare briefing notes and letters regarding municipal issues
• Review and update municipal governance and financial information
• Coordinate the tracking of municipal documents
• Intelligence gathering and analysis through various sources (e.g. media clips, internet, twitter, etc.) and report as necessary
• Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below or other similar tasks as assigned
This summer position will also offer opportunities to attend meetings with municipal government staff and participate in other special projects.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
All positions require students to be 15 years of age on the first day of employment with no age limit.
Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) on the first day of employment due to program funding.

• Research and analytical skills to assess and provide advice regarding municipal issues
• You apply your planning and organizational skills to collect, organize, review and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
Requirements
• You must have a valid Ontario G2 Driver's Licence (or higher) with an excellent record
