What can I expect to do in this role?

Work Description:

• Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the park to ensure a clean and safe environment
• Provide garbage removal services throughout site by emptying receptacles into bins and transporting to central waste collection area by motorized utility vehicle (gator/golf cart)
• Assist staff with ground and lawn maintenance, brush removal, and clearing culverts
• Operate a variety of small gas powered landscape tools to maintain landscaped spaces
• Assist in the setup, monitoring and clean-up of events
• Ability to work in an outdoor environment with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations
• Identifies problems and attempts to resolve them before deferring to the Assistant Manage
• Assist with a variety of other tasks around the park as needed
• Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below or other similar tasks as assigned
* Successful candidates will be required to provide their own safety footwear.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

All positions require students to be 15 years of age on the first day of employment with no age limit.

Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) on the first day of employment due to program funding.

Some positions on this job ad will require the successful candidate to undergo a general-level screening check, which includes a criminal record check, at their own expense

Qualification Requirements:

Communication and Organizational Skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills to respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries and provide information to internal clients and/or public

Technical Skills
• You apply basic safe operating practices to work with machinery and equipment
• Conduct mechanical maintenance of grounds, buildings, and lawn care equipment and tools (e.g. tractors, lawn mowers, weed trimmers and portable pumps)
• You will be provided with training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

Interpersonal, Team-work and Other Skills
• Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
• Following directions and seeking clarification
• Being comfortable working around water

Other Requirements
• You are at least 18 years of age
• You must have a valid Ontario G2 Drivers Licence (or higher) with an excellent driving record
• Ability to work in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations
• Ability and comfort in operating small machinery and using lawn care tools
• The flexibility to work assigned shifts. Shifts will vary in length and days of week due to events. A schedule will be provided 2 weeks in advance
