Are you ready to take your engineering career to the next level? Consider this opportunity to manage construction contracts through the application of your technical expertise and project management skills with the Ministry of Transportation's Provincial Highways Management Division.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• review and oversee contract drawings and documents during the pre-contract engineering phase
• prepare and evaluate requests for quotes and proposals for the consultant procurement process
• advise on constructability, safety, environmental and quality issues
• oversee, review and assess contractors' and consultants' performance on several concurrent projects
• provide technical supervision for on-site administration of construction
• ensure accurate payments, financial forecasts and appropriate documentation for claims settlement negotiations
• inspect construction sites to verify construction practices and adherence to guidelines, regulations and quality control procedures
• provide supervision, direction, training and technical advice to all staff for on-site administration activities of a construction project

Please note: Occasional overnight travel may be required.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• you must have a valid Class 'G' Drivers Licence to travel to various construction sites throughout the region

Technical Knowledge:

• you have knowledge of highway and bridge engineering principles, standards and specifications
• you can interpret and apply highway and bridge construction practices and related legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Environmental Assessment Act
• you have knowledge of engineering principles to manage highway and bridge construction projects, review and analyze drawings, plans and designs

Contract and Project Management Knowledge, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:

• you have knowledge of contract administration and project management to effectively manage and supervise multiple concurrent projects
• you have analytical and problem solving skills to assess engineering and construction issues having financial impacts and political sensitivity
• you have the ability to analyse and review drawings, plans and designs, proposals, schedules for constructability, quality, safety and environmental
• you are able to assess contractors and consultants work for compliance with legislation, regulations, procedures and guidelines and to select appropriate follow-up action to address non-compliance

Communication, Interpersonal and Leadership Skills:

• you have well developed oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with senior management, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders
• you can provide technical supervision, guidance and support to staff
• you can negotiate with service providers on dispute resolution

Computer Skills:

• you have the ability to operate computers and associated software (such as Microsoft Office Suite)
