Are you an expert on aquatic biology/ecology? Are you passionate about species at risk? Join the Fisheries Section as we build policies and programs to conserve aquatic species at risk and their habitats in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the Aquatic Species at Risk Specialist, you will play a key role in conservation policy initiatives. You will:

• provide specialty expertise in aquatic biology/ecology and habitat management to support the effective implementation of the Endangered Species Act;
• keep up to date on research and environmental scans to build on current knowledge;
• lead and participate in the analysis of species at risk issues;
• maintain ongoing partnerships with specialists; and
• participate in cooperative initiatives.

How do I qualify?

Specialized knowledge:

• You have expert knowledge of aquatic biological/ecological science theory, principles and practices of population ecology, physiology and management.
• You have demonstrated scientific knowledge of Ontario's aquatic species at risk and their habitats to provide advice for the protection and recovery of aquatic species at risk.

Communication skills:

• You can apply communication, presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills to work effectively with stakeholders, staff and management.

Analytical skills:

• You have analytical, judgement and evaluation skills to analyze and assess complex biological issues and provide recommendations.

Leadership skills:

• You have leadership and project management skills to lead projects and provide technical guidance to meet tight deadlines and targets.
