Looking for an archaeological position? Apply your knowledge of prehistoric and historic sites and experience supervising multi-site archaeological field work to this opportunity with the Ministry of Transportation's Environmental Services Section.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• ensure archaeological components of regional transportation projects meet requirements under the Ontario Heritage Act and the Environmental Assessment Act
• plan projects and direct all aspects of a multi-site program (i.e. compilation of archaeological data, coordination of field assessments, survey, excavations, site and artefact analysis, documentation)
• manage archaeological work undertaken by consultants
• prepare licence reports and field notes
• provide archaeological input to environmental assessment and other studies

NOTE: This position requires some travel to carry out fieldwork.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory Requirements

• you must hold a Professional Archaeological licence issued by Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• you have knowledge of archaeological methods and theory and of Ontario prehistory and history to be a specialist witness on archaeological matters
• you have archaeological supervisory field experience in survey, excavation, mapping, cataloguing, analysing, and report writing to supervise consultants and provide leadership and guidance
• you have knowledge of Ontario Heritage Act, the Environmental Assessment Act, other related legislation, regulations and standards

Essential Skills:

• You have communication, interpersonal, negotiation, consultation to provide instructions to consultants and provide recommendations to senior management, to advise consultants on budgets and assignments, to propose plans, advise on priorities, discuss resource allocations
• You have organizational, planning and project management skills in order to develop work plans and to plan projects
• You have initiative, problem-solving and analyzing skills to resolve issues and determine potential impacts of transportation proposals
• You demonstrate tact, diplomacy and judgment when advising on the resolution of complex and unusual problems
