What can I expect to do in this role?

The Group Sales and Partnership Representative leads the strategic planning, development, and coordination of group sales and partnership programs to drive volume attendance and revenue and achieve business goals for the Ontario Science Centre through implementation of direct sales, and tourism marketing/promotions. Activities include, and are not limited to, sales calls/presentations, data capture, partnership/sponsorship relations, contract fulfilment and customer relationship management.

You will play a vital role as a key point of contact for group sales and communication with customers, and will attend out-of-town tradeshows and conventions as a representative of the organization (travel is approximately 30% of time). You will develop a strong record of accomplishment with tourism sales, group sales, consignment sales for tour, travel, Free Independent Travelers (FIT), recreational and corporate markets as well as community access marketing in a range of environments.

How do I qualify?

Sales Ability

• In depth knowledge of sales techniques and tools; demonstrated significant sales results
• Demonstrated expertise with Travel and Hospitality sales and marketing channels
• Ability to develop business plans and objectives and translate those into viable sales strategies and tactics
• Ability to connect with variety of audiences, plan and execute familiarization tours as well as planning and hosting large complex events while focusing on sales as the end results
• Ability to identify required metrics to aid in selling, build rationale, design campaigns and measure results
• Demonstrated presentation skills for small and large audiences in both formal and informal settings
• Demonstrated success in developing new lines of business, partnerships and promotions and negotiate contracts with partners in the tourism, hospitality, trade and recreational industry

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

• Ability to cooperate, negotiate and work effectively with diplomacy and political acuity in large, complex organizations, with various levels of management/non-management
• Leadership skills to mentor team members, train and coach others, work on cross-functional teams and provide guidance when needed
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to define target groups and their needs
• Excellent customer service/client relations skills to serve, assist and negotiate with a variety of client groups, supporting suppliers, sales distribution channels, promotional partners, program providers, etc

Marketing Knowledge

• Deep understanding of the tourism industry for key OSC markets including Ontario, Quebec, Canada, USA, and key international markets
• Ability to develop, coordinate, produce and distribute traditional and digital promotional sales and marketing materials including brochures, direct mail campaign components, flyers/packages, web content, electronic newsletters etc
• Ability with writing/copy and editing/proofreading to high level for targeted audiences
• Ability to develop and assess key performance indicators of group sales and partnership programs to adjust strategies and plans as appropriate
• Data compilation, analysis and presentation of sales, campaign, statistical data and metrics pertaining to sales and distribution programs

Technical and Administrative Skills

• Ability to manage a budget, control spending and plan activities up to two years in advance for planning purposes
• Project management skills and organizational skills to lead and coordinate multiple, concurrent sector campaigns
• Ability to manage accounts including reconciliation and receivables
• Excellent computer skills and ability to use a variety of software to manage office operations and to develop/produce presentations, reports, spreadsheets, flyers, web- and electronic marketing materials etc
• Experience with relevant computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, CRM, ticketing systems, reporting modules, association appointment software)
• Ability to identify data requirements to support budgeting, planning and management decisions
