The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Commander North East Region are seeking a qualified individual to join our team. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.

About Us:

North East Region spans from Moosonee Detachment in the north, Mattawa Detachment in the east, White River Detachment in the west to the West Parry Sound and Almaguin Highlands Detachments in the south, the North East Region of the OPP encompasses a geographical area (423,173 sq. kilometres). This is larger than several European countries. The North East Region includes the districts of Algoma, Sudbury, Cochrane, Timiskaming, Nipissing, Manitoulin and Parry Sound. OPP North East Region provides policing to over 190,000 permanent residents and to more than 400,000 people when including
temporary/seasonal residents.

The Kirkland Lake Detachment area includes the Town of Kirkland Lake at its core, as well as the communities of McGarry Township, Larder Lake, Gauthier Township, Matachewan and many other unorganized townships. The Kirkland Lake Detachment area has a very diverse and multicultural population with five main communities and Beaverhouse and Matachewan First Nations.

What can I expect to do in this role?

To manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status.
• Ability to pass and maintain ongoing Use of Force certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of relevant sections of legislation such as the Criminal Code, Young Offenders Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, provincial offenses and municipal by-laws to coordinate court proceedings, prepare briefs and other court documents.

Knowledge of court processes, procedures, operations and scheduling to coordinate and monitor court proceedings.

Knowledge of application software programs to prepare, update and maintain court-related records and to register sex offenders.

Organizational skills to coordinate and track all arrangements and documentation pertaining to detachment case files being processed in court.

Interpersonal, oral & written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment.

Problem solving skills and ability to make decisions regarding day-to-day case management and document composition, processing and routing.

As part of the OPP Values, ability to maintain the highest degree of integrity, confidentiality and professional discipline while performing your duties as a Court Officer.
