This position can be located in the North Bay or Toronto office.
About the job
•Provide technical expertise for support of current and future radio infrastructure and other unit personal by conducting tests and inspections of the government telecommunications system control which includes maintaining business applications and determining priorities; replacing faulty components; auditing and approving contractor repair work; notifying appropriate parties of Infrastructure system problems; liaising with ministry personal, vendors and other agencies; and reconciling contractor conflicts.
•Assist with or conduct live tests and rejuvenation of returned parts to ascertain weaknesses with supplier parts and liaises with the suppliers to correct deficiencies.
•Source, provide and assist with controls the inventory levels of specialized equipment such as earpieces, headsets, battery recondition and other equipment.
•Design radio frequency templates for radios to designate specific radio channels used by front-line personnel to ensure frequency conflict is avoided.
•Provide assistance, when requested, to research technical problems, determine solutions and make recommendations to supervisors and users
•Assist with cost analysis and preparation of network infrastructure services to users and to conduct feasibility studies on modifications requested.
•Performs other duties, as assigned.
What you bring to the team
Technical Knowledge & Skills
You have:
•Knowledge of all sub-system components within government control involved in telecommunications system and their inter relationship, including microwave, mobile, portable and base radios and repeaters, diesel generators.
•Knowledge of standby and back-up power systems, alarm reporting system, and radio system switches, dispatch computer, communications consoles, console and communications centre voice recording systems, network design to ensure optimum operation of an emergency response system.
•Knowledge of system design criteria and theoretical principles, security and recovery procedures and connectivity to properly make recommendations to supervisor.
•Knowledge MS Office software programs used in system operations and for the preparation of reports, spreadsheets and presentations.
•Understanding and/or experience in contract management such as service level agreements (SLAs) to resolve system performance or failure issues by selecting the appropriate supplier.
Communication (oral and written) and Interpersonal skills
•You have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with all levels of personnel to work with non-government contractors, resolve issues, present technical information and provide guidance.
•You can write and edit business cases, technical/financial reports and prepare technical work documentation and standards.
•You possess effective listening to users reports of faults in order to determine problems.
Evaluative, Problem solving and Analytical skills
•You can analyze the condition, technical performance and capacity of existing system components.
•You can determine the nature of the problem, research, identify and set priorities to correct problems, assist making repairs, replacing parts devising a new solution to the problem utilizing existing resources and/or directing contractors.
•You can make recommendations on need and feasibility for expansion, renovation, replacement or other corrective action.
•You can interpret and apply new information, technology and design methods to telecommunications operations and problems of systems components within government control.
•You can assess and evaluate needs of clients.
