What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• assist with Geographic Information System (GIS) issues and projects
• assist in the maintenance and updating of a computerized database and associated material (e.g. reports, videos & photos), and preparing documents required to report on or respond to mine-hazards and related activities
• assist with the provision of routine and general guidance and information to external clients relative to abandoned mine hazards
• assist in the provision of technical support to the Mineral Development Branch.
• assist in the preparation and processing of general correspondence and in organizing and maintaining filing systems

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must have graduated from a college or university of recognized standing within the past three years.

Specialized knowledge:

• You have good knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) software (ArcView, ArcGIS, MapInfo) and GIS principles, practices and techniques, and peripheral equipment (digitizers, scanners and printers).
• You have knowledge of the design and production of Geoscience and related thematic maps using raster, vector and GIS technologies, in order to produce, modify and clarify information on digital claim maps.
• You have knowledge of computer systems and software (e.g. Microsoft Office suite), graphics software and internet/intranet systems.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have good communication skills (verbal & written) to interact with stakeholders, conduct research for technical information, communicate ideas and information clearly, exchange information, create a variety of documents and conduct effective presentations.

Analytical and organizational skills:

• You have analytical, research and problem solving skills to evaluate, review and map closure plan boundaries and to maintain or refine the abandoned mines database.
• You have organizational and prioritization skills to organize work and meet deadlines.
